Now as head of the company John Gorham took on many new tasks and agendas for the company. He started production with mechanized ways, introduced many more manufactures and buyers. He then found many workers in the field like handymen and men to make tools that were needed.

During the height of the silver industry which lasted from the 1850's to the 1950's Gorham Silver was very well respected in the industry. In the late 1800's, one of Gorham's most famous designers, created a design called Chantilly. This design later became one of the most famous silver flatware designs. In Manhattan a silver shop was opened by the Gorham in the late 1800's, but then years later moved to a fifth avenue address in New York. Shortly after this time Gorham Silver bought a New Jersey based company, which had been a competitor. Later in the century in the 1960's Gorham was sold out, which to some people thought this sell out of the company made the quality of their products go down. Then the company would later be owned by another buyer and finally by there final owner.

So during all the time the company has been in running and producing great designs and products several are well known. Some of these included a flatware set and tea set that was ordered by Lincoln's wife for use in the White House. Later a museum was given this set to preserve in the late 1950's. As part of the hundredth year anniversary of the country, asked Gorham to make a vase which was made up with heavy amounts of silver. In most recent times the government asked to have the silverware, especially the Gorham silver spoons, in the presidents plane made by Gorham Silver. Some of the artist's of the Gorham company also did many other designs across the country. These pieces can be found in places like Washington, DC, Rhode Island state house and in museum's. One last place where you can see the design of the Gorham Silver company is from two buildings in New York. There is the Gorham Building and the Gorham Manufacturing Building which are both in Manhattan.
